Following the resignation of the Norfolk Police and Crime Commissioner, a by-election will be held on Thursday 16 July 2026 to fill this vacancy.

If a councillor leaves their seat during the course of their term, a casual vacancy will occur. This may happen because a councillor has resigned, become disqualified (or ceased to be qualified), due to a failure to take up office, or passed away.

We are required by law to publish how many signatures of registered voters are required on a petition on whether we should change to a different form of governance, for example having a mayor.

A ballot was held on renewing the Business Improvement District (BID) arrangements in respect of the Great Yarmouth Town Centre Improvement Area in March 2026.

You can register to vote on the GOV.UK website. We will send you a letter to confirm you have been added to the Electoral Register.

Voters have a range of options for casting their ballot - in person, by post or by appointing someone they trust to vote in their place, known as a proxy vote.

The borough has 39 borough councillors, representing 17 electoral wards and nine county councillors represent nine county divisions
